The 11+1 Balls Problem
You have 12 balls. Eleven of them are the same weight but the twelfth is either lighter or heavier...you don't know which!
You have a pair of balancing scales on which you can weigh the balls against each other to compare weights.
With 3 weighing of the scales find which ball has a different weight to the others and whether it is heavier than the other.
